It will illuminate and a "ghost" image will move with your mouse button. Drag the mouse so that the "ghost" image hovers over the icon representing the external drive in this example, the V: drive. Let go of the mouse button and the file will copy automatically to the external drive.

The contents of the external drive will display in the window. The task is complete! This is known as a "drag-and-drop" action. Copy and Paste Double-click to open the place where the file you want to copy is located.

My Documents, for example. Find the file or folder you would like to copy and right-click on it. A drop-down menu will appear. Choose Copy. My mac is MacBook I am having the same trouble I checked the drive on a pc and was able to get in there and look at the files and media. Same here. Tried it on mac running el Capitan and it works just fine. What should i do?

I cant do anything on my mac without my hdd The same problem, but I installed the program and now works fine. I feel bad that Apple do not consider this problem. If I run the command "diskutil list" i can see both the volumes but in finder and diskutility only 1st partition is seen,.

So no joy here. This article explains about file systems and provides instruction to format a drive on Windows and Mac. Newer Seagate and LaCie branded external drives come preformatted with the exFAT file system, which allows it to be used on both Mac and Windows without reformatting the drive.

Some older drives are formatted specifically for PCs, some specifically for Macs, and some of them have special utilities allowing them to work between both without having to reformat the drive. If you are not sure which one is best for you the File System Format Comparisions highlights the main difference between file systems. Seagate internal drives are not preformatted and must be formatted before use.

Drives that will be bootable are formatted during the process of installing the operating system ie, Windows or macOS. If you have a drive that is formatted for a different type of computer or a drive that is not preformatted, you will need to format the drive before you can use it. Also, drives that will be used for storage need to be formatted. Formatting erases all data on the drive.
