I am going to use a Quickfuel blower carb on my blown sbc. They are like a Holley on steroids, and have more tune options. Joined: Aug 14, Posts: 10, Profile Page. For performance the holleys have alwasys been easier to get tune up parts for.
I think the holleys have some better booster venturi designs that help throttle responce. Joined: Dec 20, Posts: 3, Profile Page. Joined: Jan 26, Posts: 1, Profile Page. Unless you really know what you are doing and are a very serious racer, any properly sized, rebuilt, and tuned carb will work excellent on your car. If you are going to be tuning it yourself, pick whatever carb is easiest for you to tune, in the proper size for your application and use, and go.
Edit: I would be willing to bet if you had a professional carb guy set up and tune a Holley and an edlebrock for the same car, and put them on back to back, a large majority of people here wouldn't be able to guess which was which by the way the car performed. Jenkins Competition likes this. Way to put it. I do like the edelbrocks street manners but are the quick fuels a better alternative to the Holley? I have had some very temperamental holleys in the past. If there's more performance advantage with a "Holley type" carb are there better choices? The Holley also ran great but the throttle response was not as good nor was the performance as the Eddy. I would not have though this but way back in the early 90's I had a couple of Carter 's and I out one of them on my old I have to say after getting the hesitation out of that carb no Holley could touch it to rpm, so that is some of the reason I like the Eddy carbs.
Now the that is on the would not run worth a darn on my sb. I suspect that once you get it tuned for one engine you may have to tune it for the other ones. I do not think a Holley does this as much as I have taken my Holley of my and tossed it on a and it ran great. Carbs are a crap shoot unless you get them from a place like Quick Fuel or AED set up for the engine you have. I also have started using some Demon carbs with great results at the track but have not had enough time to try them on the street.
If you have any questions on tuning just send me a PM and I will try to help. Dec 15, 3. I've driven it for a couple of years and a few thousand miles with the out of the box edelbrock settings, only adjusting the idle mixture and the accelerator pump shot. It has a little hesitation off idle about rpm , with the maximum accelerator pump shot. I have the tuning kit from summit but I haven't even opened it yet. Dec 15, 4. Messages: 14, Likes Received: 9. They are both easy.
The Holley has a transfer tube between barrels so you need to have extra o-rings as well as extra bowl and block gaskets. Get a strip kit that has vacuum secondary springs, get a quick change housing for the springs, jet kit, power valve selection, accelerator pump cam selection. The AFB is very easy to tune with a change of the metering rods.
They are on top, are spring loaded and take one screw to get to them. Get a Strip kit with jets and metering rods and power piston springs. Both carbs are pretty much a bolt on, set the idle mixture and idle speed and its good. Open the top of the AFB and check the float level, check for dirt, chips etc.
Remove both bowels on the Holley and check the dry float level, check for dirt, debris, chips etc. Reassemble each, set the idle mixture screws out 1.
Other than that, I went to the factory supplied lighter vacuum spring not a good idea if you still have a ci engine. Although the vacuum delay worked fair, there must be a way to eliminate it but it is beyond me The Edelbrock carburetor is short and wide having it fuel bowls on either side of the venturies this setup makes it very hard to get to intake bolts for periodic re-torque the intake Touchy Tuning best to do small adjustments - Drive a few days then make more small adjustments Automatic Kick-down Shift Points are Incorrect - after installation on a and a W both of the C4 Automatic kick-down linkage did not work properly.
The 1st to 2nd shift seems to be early and they both held 2nd way to long causing over-rev conditions. Verdict: I'll keep the Holley. Also Visit:. Holley vs. Edelbrock Views on this page are strictly my opinion. Smooth Acceleration Vacuum Secondaries. Spring loaded needle and seat already installed "stock". Less Touchy Tuning using Vacuum Gauge, Timing Light, and a Tachometer you basically put the mixture screws, and electric choke at factory settings and leave them.
The Truck Avenger has the classic front and back bowls so all your intake bolts are accessible. Automatic Transmission Kick-down works just like the stock Holley did. Remanufactured parts if you want a "new" carburetor buy the Edelbrock.
